Weather alert as high winds expected

Redditch Editorial 11th Dec, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

SEVERE gales of up to 60mph are expected to hit Worcestershire tonight (Thursday).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning after forecasters predicted heavy rain and strong winds.

Worcestershire County Council’s highway team has put extra crews on standby as the bad weather is also expected to last until tomorrow morning (Friday).

All their tree removal contractors are also on alert as people are warned to be aware of damaged trees, disruption to power supplies and extra surface water on the roads.

Coun John Smith OBE, responsible for highways, said: “The strong winds and rain forecast will make conditions difficult overnight and through to tomorrow morning.

“The message to anyone making journeys is to take care and temper their driving according to the elements.

“We’ve got additional gulley emptying gangs on standby and the same goes for all of our tree removal contractors. They’ll be doing all they can to help if they are required.”
