Young guns showing huge promise

Redditch Editorial 25th Jun, 2019   0

NORTH East Worcestershire Ravens juniors enjoyed another successful day as they competed in a series of matches at a festival organised by Sherwood Wolf Hunt in Nottinghamshire on Sunday.

The under 11s played matches against a combination of teams from Bolsover Bulls, Coventry Bears, Bassetlaw Bulldogs, Telford Raiders, Black Swans from Malvern, Sherwood Wolf Hunt and Nottingham Outlaws.

The junior Ravens won almost every match and loaned out players to other clubs, such was the sporting behaviour of the playing squad.

Several of the other teams present complimented the Ravens on their standard of play, which really does augur well for the future development of the club. Several of the current open age players and coaches have come through this system that Ravens have in place.

Ravens under 15 players also took part in the festival at Sherwood, with the squad combining with Telford Raiders and Coventry Bears to play teams from Bolsover, Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire and Malvern.

Considering the team had only played together once before, the standard was impressive as the squad scored some excellent tries and won all of their games.

NEW Ravens are always on the lookout for players, regardless of experience. Mixed touch is played on Mondays from 7pm, open age training is on Wednesdays from 7.30pm and junior training every Sunday from 10.30am – all at Hopwood Park, Ash Lane, Hopwood.

Ravens also play masters which has modified rules for older players as well as ‘little leaguers’ for the very young.

Ravens seniors visit Birmingham Bulldogs in Midlands South on Saturday (2.30pm).
