THE MIDLANDS Seven and Women’s Five-mile Cross Country Championship took place at Bulwell Hall Park near Mansfield.

The men’s course was one small lap and three large laps and the course was very firm, although spikes were needed for the climbs.

From the gun, Jack Gray make it clear it was his race and he led from start to finish.

With no representation from B&R, it was left to former club man Joe Smith to fly the flag for his home town of Redditch.

Smith was involved in a tremendous battle with his Tipton Harriers team-mate but dug deep to finish second.

Tipton took the gold medal team prize as Smith claimed his second Midlands team accolade in five weeks.

The next meeting for the men is on December 3 when the Birmingham Cross Country League Division One second round takes place at Sandwell Valley.
