RISING golf stars had their efforts honoured at the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs (WUGC) junior awards event.

The WUGC County Celebration of Achievement Awards, held at Kings Norton Golf Club, featured a great turnout of county boys and their families who enjoyed the presentations.

The afternoon began with an inspiring talk, given by John Pates, on the psychological aspects of playing golf before the 2018 season’s accolades were presented by county president Grenville Rose.

County chairman Bill Thompson said: “The county would like to express sincere thanks to Kings Norton Golf Club for providing their conference facilities in order to host the event.”




Certificates for outstanding achievements in 2018 were given to:

Hayden Sarfo (Gaudet Luce GC): IMG World Finals – 9th place; 2nd highest ranked in UK; Winner of the Stowe Putter for U11s; Qualified as UK winner for 2019 IMG World Finals Birmingham; Sports Awards 2018 – Finalist; US Kids British Championships – 5th place; American Golf Finals – UK winner for 7/8-year-olds.


Hugh Adams (Hagley GC): U16 County Stroke Play champion; U18 County Match Play champion; U14 England Golf national champion ‘Reid Trophy’; Ranked 3rd in Europe for U14 category 2018.

Other winners:

Junior Order of Merit winner – James Humphries (Redditch GC).

U16 individual points winner for the Bill Thompson Trophy – James Ilsley (Dudley GC).

U18 individual points winner for the Cunningham Trophy – Aaron Bryan (Worcester G&CC).

U14 Stroke Play champion for the Jim Gray Trophy – Sam Rowbottom (Kings Norton GC).

U16 Stroke Play champion – Hugh Adams (Hagley GC).

U18 Stroke Play champion for the Mansell Cup – Jack Severn (Cleobury Mortimer GC).

U18 Match Play champion for the John Fraser Cup – Hugh Adams (Hagley GC).

U14 Manager’s Player of the Year – Hugh Adams (Hagley GC).

U16 Manager’s Player of the Year – Harrison Leaver (Gaudet Luce GC).

U18 Manager’s Player of the Year – Evan Lewis (Bromsgrove GC).

Players’ Player of the Year – Hugh Adams (Hagley GC).
