STEVE BELLION was crowned overall winner of the Alvechurch Fisheries Winter League as the event came to a thrilling conclusion at the Bittell Road venue on Saturday.

Bellion finished fourth on the day as Richard Johns of Smithy’s Angling Centre took top spot in the final match.

Second overall was Danny Tresigne, third Les Ayres, fourth Malcolm Brown and fifth Warren Beach.

There was a very exciting finish to the last round as Johns weighed 68.0 on the scales to just hold off the closing field. Fishing off peg 36, he rotated pole and maggot lines up to the aerator and out in front for a few carp up to 10lb and stockies.

His nearest challenger Ron Taylor on peg 32 opted to fish long pole and maggot out in front over a number of swims to pick off carp up to 8lb and a net of barbel to boost his weight to 67.0.

Brown on peg seven fished bomb and maggot tactics for his all-carp net of 58.14 to claim third place and fourth was Bellion on peg 35 who fished long pole up to the rushes before switching to a number of lines for his all-carp net of 56.10.

Tresigne on peg three fished a number of tactics including pole and waggler with maggot out in front to include a carp of 12lb and stockies for 54.13.

Trevor Hodges on peg 26 rotated pole and maggot at 14m for his all-carp net of 50.4 to complete the top six on the day.

THERE were no surprises as the Thursday Open on the Horseshoe was won by Rob Street who drew in-form peg 36 again and doubled his Thursday Open wins.

He opted for a pole and maggot attack out in front and down to the aerator over light feed to net a number of carp up to 10lb and stockies to weigh 85.3.

Fishing pole and maggot at 12m over a number of lines, Paul Gartshore on peg 32 found himself in second place after tipping the scales round with a superb barbel net of 72.1 to set a new record on the Horseshoe Lake.

Third placed Paul Mortimer on peg five elected to fish waggler and maggot out in front over a number of swims for carp up to 7lb and stockies to weigh 52.4.

Rob Gandley on peg 13 netted a mixed bag alternating pole and caster up to the flower box for 43.5 and fourth spot.

Fifth was Ayres on peg 30 who fished bomb and maggot up to the island for his mixed bag of 32.11 and sixth was Brown on peg three who opted for a bomb and maggot attack out in front for a mixed bag of 25.4.
