JOHN NEWTON was victorious in the Saturday Open at Alvechurch Fisheries as 25 fished on the Horseshoe and Canal lakes.

After drawing peg 30 on the Horseshoe lake, Newton opted to fish pole and maggot at 13m rotating a number of lines over light feed and he was able to pick off a number of carp up to 8lb and stockies for his winning all-carp net of 53.9 and the bonus peg.

Wayne Adams on peg 36 alternated pole and maggot with corn at 7m for his all-carp net of 43.6 to seal second place and third was Les Ayres on peg five who rotated bomb and maggot tactics over short and long lines for his all-carp net of 40.12.

Fourth was Alex Glennon on peg 34 who fished pole and corn on the deck at 13m over a number of swims for 40.9 and fifth was Phil Watts on peg 32 who fished pole and maggot out in front before switching late down the margin to net a few carp up to 8lb for 38.11.




Completing the top six was Steve Bellion on peg 28 who alternated pole and waggler tactics up to the rushes for his mixed bag of 36.15.

ROB STREET was the winner of the Thursday Open in which 18 fished on the Horseshoe.


Fishing off in-form road peg 36, Street opened his win account at the fishery. Opting to fish long pole and maggot tactics down the margin and up to the aerator, he picked off a number of carp up to 10lb and stockies for his all-carp net of 68.7.

He only just held off his nearest challenger, assistant manager Phil Evans on peg four, at the weigh-in. Evans rotated pole and maggot at 14m over a number of lines for his all-carp net of 64.1.

Third placed Ron Taylor on peg 24 alternated long pole and maggot tactics down to the aerator for his all-carp net of 57.2.

After drawing peg 28, Scott Smith kept the bites coming as he switched pole and waggler for carp and 30lb of barbel to boost his weight to 54.3 to finish fourth.

Tony Taylor on peg 26 fished bomb and corn up to the island throughout to weigh 45.6 as he came fifth and sixth was Les Ayres fishing off peg 29 who rotated a number of lines at 14m for his all-carp net of 43.7.
