WARWICKSHIRE Ladies proved their worth in the first Middle England League game of the season by beating Oxfordshire County 105-98.

Their four-rink win meant they came away with a 13 points to four victory, which was a resounding start to this important challenge trophy.

Highest winning rink went to Elaine Taylor with Di Medhurst (both Stoke), Barbara Boscott (Rowheath) and Jacqui Cook (Lillington), who were level pegging with their opponents until the tenth end when a four-shot win obviously spurred them on to eventually win 27-8.

President Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with her team – Karen Rice (Entaco), Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) and Pat Bax (Rugby Ladies) – set off at a pace and were 13-2 ahead at the tenth end, eventually winning 21-7.

Maureen Tims (Whitnash) with Margaret Andrew (Entaco), Di Wilkinson (Stoke) and Di Thurlbeck (Lillington) struggled to begin with and were 11-1 down at six ends, but twos on the seventh and eighth ends provided some encouragement and they started to keep the opposition at bay, even taking five shots on the 16th end which brought them level, and they eventually finished with a two-shot lead of 19-17.

Moira Parsons (Welford) with Patsy Tandy and Chris Cooke (both Southam) and Pat Moore (Three Spires) also struggled to score for the first few ends but after winning two shots on the fifth end they did not look back and refused to let their opponents have a look-in for a further nine ends, eventually winning 17-15.

Janet Scott with Di Green (both Sherwood Park), Brenda Carlton (Three Spires) and Helen Harris (Stoke) were level pegging most of the way but could not quite hold out and eventually lost 11-15.

Liz Chedgzoy (Stratford) with Lilian Hope and Wendy Holloway (Welford) and Margaret Waterhouse (Wellesbourne) were not so lucky and after a tough afternoon lost 36-10.
