White Hart ease closer to crown

Redditch Editorial 11th Aug, 2017   0

WHITE Hart look to have the Warwick and Worcs Premier Division Six title in the bag following a 225-194 away win at Marston Green.

Victory leaves, leaving them ten points ahead of their nearest rivals Romsley and Hunnington, with only four matches left to play.

The Redditch club had eight winners from the 12 ties: Ken Brown 21-9, Neil Laxton 21-11, Graham Arnott 21-12, Stuart Rice 21-14, Gary Bennett 21-15, Mike Estell 21-16, Sue Sugden 21-17 and captain Ian Humphreys 21-16.

Results in the other leagues generally proved disappointing for White Hart as they only gained one more victory from seven matches.

This came in the Heart Of England Over 60s Division One as the A team accounted for Black Horse A at home 108-90.

They had all three winning cards in the first half from Tom Hawkes (21-13), Norman Batchelor (21-12), and Mike Estell (21-7).

Two defeats in the second half followed but Ken Brown’s 21-16 win for Hart gave them 14 vital points from the match.

The B team almost pulled off a huge shock away at Division Two leaders Baldwin, only going down by five shots.

Mick Perrins’ 21-20 win over Eddie Browning helped to give the visitors a good first-half total before Kirk Wright ended Dave Whitcombe’s unbeaten home record this season with a narrow 21-19 victory and Graham Arnott inflicted a rare defeat on Martin Beck by the same scoreline.

In the HOE Thursday League Division One, White Hart A were easily brushed aside at RABL A. They lost 98-165 with captain Ian Humphreys their only winner 21-18.

The B team also tasted defeat at home to Henley A in Division Four 129-143 having just three winning cards from Dave Kings (21-11), John Meredith (21-17) and captain Norman Batchelor (21-10).

In the Sunday Northfield and District League Division Four, White Hart B struggled on a notoriously difficult Kings Norton Ex-Service green where they had only two winners, Kirk Wright (21-11) and John Meredith (21-16).

White Hart Wednesday captain Kirk Wright qualified for the Heart of England Over 60s Merit Finals beating past winner Dave Clarke (Moseley A) at Tanworth-In-Arden 21-20.

He joins Ron Reagan (Moseley) Ken Harvey (Maggies) and Stevan Green (College AG) in the last four of the competition.
