White Hart close in on leaders

Redditch Editorial 20th Jun, 2018   0

WHITE HART closed to within two points of leaders Pheasant after a fine home victory over Hamstead Social in Warwick/Worcester League Division Four on Saturday.

After losing the away match to the Great Barr outfit the previous week, the Redditch club turned things around with nine winners from the 12 ties.

Graham Arnott (21-16), Norman Batchelor (21-10) and Mick Perrins (21-13) gave them a fine start in the opening four ties before Ken Brown (21-15) and Kirk Wright (21-11) produced winning cards from the middle section games.

Mike Estell (21-18), Dave Kings (21-12) and captain Ian Humphreys (21-10) then sealed victory for Hart with a final 207-184 scorecard to take the two points.

In Northfield & District League, White Hart A gained a much-needed home victory over Colebrook A in Division One by a narrow 147-143 scoreline.

Paul Matthews (21-18), Graham Arnott (21-12) and Martyn Higgins (21-15) gave them an early advantage before Kirk Wright was beaten 21-16 by last season’s division averages winner Mark Gamsby.

Mike Estell then defeated Barry Maskell Snr 21-14 and Ray Richards gained sufficient shots in a 21-18 defeat to take Hart over the finishing line and give them six points, narrowing the gap at the bottom of the table between them and Triplex to ten points.

White Hart B suffered a heavy 150-85 defeat in Division Three at Ye Olde Knowle. An easy win for Norman Batchelor 21-4 gave them a dream start but it was mostly downhill for them from then onwards although Gill Croft gained a hard-fought 21-20 win over Denise Lucas.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague, White Hart B were beaten 143-106 at Henley B in Division Four. Ged Dooner (21-9) and Denis Turner (21-8) both won to single figures and Phil Hemming only lost by two shots but the hosts took 16 points from the tie to Hart’s two.

In Heart of England Thursday League Division Two, White Hart A visited league leaders Triplex and could only produce two winning cards from Paul Matthews 21-14 and Stephen Turner 21-18 in a 158-117 defeat. They currently occupy fourth place in the table.

Meanwhile, the B team were at home to Tanworth B in Division Four and are also fourth in their league after a 142-122 victory. Hart had five winners – Dave Kings 21-13, Tony Buckley 21-16, Dave Edwards 21-4, Anne Batchelor 21-11 and Sheila Humphreys 21-15.

In the Heart of England Over 60s Consolation Cup, White Hart B progressed to the second round with a 132-100 victory over Moorpool B who were receiving 20 shots in the handicap format.

Wins for Anne Batchelor (21-4), Mick Perrins (21-14) and Sheila Humphreys (21-11) more than cancelled out that advantage before Tom Hawkes (21-7) and Sue Sugden (21-15) gave the Redditch club a 32-shot nett advantage at the finish.

In SW Birmingham Over 60s League Division One, White Hart A travelled to British Oak A and came away with an impressive 114-103 win.

Their four winning cards came from Graham Arnott 21-16, Ray Richards 21-11, Kirk Wright and Mike Estell (both 21-17), lifting them to sixth in the table.

White Hart B defeated the visiting Oak B team 124-106 in Division Four, with winning scores from Gill Croft 21-17, Tom Hawkes 21-17, Kate Broome 21-13, Anne Batchelor 21-18 and captain Sue Sugden 21-20, keeping them second in the league.
