Wardell wins Minitwins crown

REDDITCH-based team Bee Lighting and their rider Paul Wardell are celebrating after winning the North Gloucester Road Racing Club Minitwins Championship at the third attempt.

Title glory was secured at Anglesey with four rounds remaining and Wardell proclaimed: “It’s a great feeling to have done it!”

After a tough season of close racing, Wardell took the title in style by setting pole position, followed by two race wins at the coastal circuit.

“It’s been a great weekend,” said Wardell. “We took everything we’ve learned throughout the year, brought it all together and raced our socks off.

“I was so confident in the Bee bike I could push the grip as hard as I liked and in that first race we won by more than 11 seconds.

“At most of the race meetings we’ve had to fight tooth and nail, swapping places in three or four-way battles with other teams from start to finish, so it made a nice change to get out in front, build a lead and control the race.”

With a brace of wins at Anglesey and only finishing off the podium twice (in fourth place both times), Wardell is 128 points ahead of his nearest rival, giving him an unbeatable lead for the rest of the season.

Wardell added: “The big question for us now is where do we go from here?

“For the remaining meetings we’re going to pit our Minitwin against the Supertwins just for fun and see if we can give the big guys a run for their money.”
