Waldron hits five as Church power through county cup tie

DANNY Waldron produced a dazzling show to score five times in Alvechurch’s 8-1 drubbing of Bedworth United in Tuesday night’s Birmingham Senior Cup tie at Lye Meadow.

The summer signing from Leamington completed a first-half hat-trick as the Church led 5-0 at half-time.

Anthony Dwyer scored the other two goals before the break.

As well as two more for the deadly Waldron, Charlie Dowd also netted in the second half before the Greenbacks replied with a free-kick rocket.

Long’s men will look to follow up the confidence-boosting win with crucial Southern Premier Central points with two home games in a row.

On Saturday, they welcome Biggleswade Town to Lye Meadow and then face St Ives Town next Saturday in a rearranged fixture.

Long will have new signing Sam Fitzgerald in contention, with the midfielder joining from Rushall Olympic.

Church will then have a fourth game on home soil in succession when they tackle Rushall in the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday October 5.

Redditch United, meanwhile, have been handed a home clash with Nuneaton Borough on the same date.
