GTUK – a Taekwondo club based in Redditch – is celebrating its first black belt after Andrei Alexiu achieved the feat a fortnight ago.

Andrei, who turns 13 tomorrow, attended the grading in Coventry and passed with good marks to attain his first degree.

Grand Master Oldham informed Andrei that he wanted the youngster to grade back in June of this year.

And Andrei worked tirelessly over the next few months to prepare for the grading where he showed what he had learnt on the day.

He also demonstrated his improved confidence and techniques to ensure he secured the grading he deserved and become GTUK’s first black belt.

Instructor Amy Ridgard said: “I am so immensely proud of Andrei, he has really changed and progressed in such a short amount of time.

“His performance on the day of the grading was very good and he put a lot of effort into showing his talent.

“His future is very promising.”

Last month, Andrei was part of a team of nine young martial artists who competed at a regional competition in Ryton On Dunsmore.

He claimed silver in his respective event – with GTUK coming away with 10 medals in total.
