Super Sammy claims Thursday Open victory

SAMMY Round was rewarded for his consistent performances as he claimed victory in the Thursday Open on the Horseshoe lake at Alvechurch Fisheries.

Following his second place in the Easter Monday Open, fishery regular Round made no mistake with a convincing win off peg 24.

Electing to fish two lines with long pole and maggot up to the aerator and down to the next pallet, he picked off carp up to 8lb to boost his all carp-net to 58.8.

Second place went to Scott Smith on peg 11 who fished pole and maggot at 14m over a number of swims for a mixed bag of carp and stockies weighing 45.2.

Fishing off peg seven, Nick Jukes fished the bomb and maggot tactics for his all-carp net of 45.0 to claim third place.

Only just behind in fourth was John Newton on peg five who fished a combination of waggler and maggot up to the rushes before switching to long pole in front for his all-carp net of 42.9.

Paul Mortimer on peg 36 fished two lines with pole and maggot up to the aerator and late down the margin for a net of carp and barbel of 30.9 to come fifth.

Sixth was Danny Tresigne on peg 32 who fished waggler and maggot up to the island to net 22.9 of carp.

THE SATURDAY Open was fished on the new Canal lake and there were plenty of bites and room for anglers to enjoy.

Fishing off peg 21, the winner was regular Warren Beach who decided to alternate long pole and maggot attack across to the rushes, rotating a number of lines over light feed to pick off carp up to 3lb for a 35lb net, adding a net of ide and barbel of 20lb for 55lb.

He finished well in front of runner-up Tony Musticone on peg three who fished long pole and maggot tactics across to the island for a mixed net of silvers of 35.2.

Trevor Hodges on peg ten opted to fish long pole and maggot across to the rushes and late down the track for his mixed bag of 27.10 to finish third.

Round on peg 12 alternated pole and maggot swims at 8m for his net of silvers of 23.12 to come fourth and fifth was Ron Taylor on peg 16 who rotated bomb and pole tactics up to the island for his mixed net of 22.5.

Paul Gartshore on peg five fished similar tactics for 21.12 to complete the top six.
