Sunday best for White Hart teams

Redditch Editorial 11th Jul, 2018   0

WHITE Hart enjoyed a super Sunday with fine results for both their teams in the Northfield & District Bowls League.

In Division One, the A team produced an outstanding performance to beat a strong Kings Heath Park team at the Headless Cross venue. The Redditch team had winning cards from Matt Higgins 21-12, Martyn Higgins 21-8, Ian Humphreys 21-14, Ray Richards 21-20 and captain Mick Perrins 21-19 to make the final score 151-129, giving Hart eight points in their fight to avoid relegation.

White Hart B also enjoyed a fine 157-122 win at Yardley Wood Social, taking them to the top of Division Three. The visitors had six winners – Sue Sugden 21-16, Thomas Hawkes 21-7, Gill Croft 21-20, Mike Hancock 21-10 Ged Dooner 21-16 and captain Dave Edwards 21-11 – and stay on course for their second consecutive promotion.

In the Yardley Wood & District Wednesday League, White Hart A are also on the promotion trail and their prospects were enhanced with an easy 167-92 home win over struggling Woodlands Park in Division Three.

The hosts only dropped one shot in the entire match, with seven winning scores from Gill Croft 21-4, Dave Kings 21-9, Neil Laxton 21-10, Mike Hancock 21-11, Ray Richards 21-15, late stand-in Brian Chatterley 21-5 and captain Kirk Wright 21-17.

Hart are now third, just four points behind Alcester A, but crucially have two games in hand on their local rivals.

The B team suffered a 145-120 defeat at the hands of King George VI A in Division Four, having three winners – John Bridger 21-11,Sheila Humphreys 21-13 and captain Tony Buckley 21-16.

In the Heart of England Thursday League, White Hart A enjoyed a more comfortable victory over Warstock than the one-shot win over the same team in the previous week’s Division Two away fixture.

This time they enjoyed six winning scores from Graham Arnott 21-16, Stephen Turner 21-18, Kirk Wright 21-12, Ray Richards 21-10, Paul Matthews 21-9 and captain Mick Perrins 21-14.

The B side were beaten 161-125 at Yardley Wood Social in Division Four, having just two winning cards from Dave Edwards 21-15 and Roger Broome 21-20.

In the SW Birmingham Over 60s Tuesday League, White Hart A drew at home with Division One leaders Selly Park. Four winning cards came from Kirk Wright 21-11, Graham Arnott 21-17, Mike Estell 21-12 and Ian Humphreys, who inflicted a first defeat of the season on his opponent Denis Goode, 21-18.

This was not quite enough to get them over the line, however, and the spoils were shared 100 each as Hart took six points from the match to Selly Park’s five, keeping them in the title race.

The B team were defeated 121-89 at Henley A in Division Four, but had three winning cards from Tom Hawkes 21-20, Sheila Humphreys 21-20 and Brian Chatterley 21-18.

Classes for beginners/novices are still being held on Monday evenings at the White Hart, Headless Cross. Contact Kirk Wright on 07707 756641.
