Studley's late rally can't prevent defeat

Redditch Editorial 18th Jul, 2019   0

GOOD displays with the bat and ball by Chris Moss and Khalil Ahmed were not enough for Studley to avoid defeat to promotion-chasing Pak Shaheen in Warwickshire League Division Two.

Moss hit 58 as Studley reached 238-8 off their 50 overs and then Ahmed snapped up 4-41 but second-placed Shaheen got to their target with three wickets and two overs in hand.

Studley, who lie third from bottom five points clear of Attock 2nds, face another top-five side on Saturday when Knowle & Dorridge 2nds, who lie fifth, are the visitors (noon).

Last weekend, Studley won the toss and batted first and the top three batsmen all got steady starts but couldn’t convert into big innings.

Dan Taylor (28) and skipper Jack WiIlliams (37) put on 51 for the first wicket and No 3 batsman Amed added 37 before Moss and Chris Walder (31) put on 70 for the fifth wicket to take the hosts past 200.

However, the innings subsided after that to end on 238-8 as Kashif Tahir (3-49) and Sultan Mahmood (3-41) made an impact.

In reply, opener Ejaz Hussain provided the perfect foundation with 98 off 112 balls, including 14 fours and one six. He shared a third-wicket stand of 92 with Ibrar Sadiq (44) and 75 with Kamran Hussain (36) for the fourth wicket and though Pak Shaheen stuttered in going from 233-4 to 234-7 as Ahmed ripped through the innings they were already within sight of victory.

Studley Seconds went down to a six-wicket away defeat to Hampton & Solihull 2nds in Division Nine.

Studley totalled 125-9 off their 50 overs and Hampton eased to their target with 15 overs in hand.

The Seconds, who lie seventh in the table, head to third-from-bottom Coleshill on Saturday, while the Thirds travel to Knowle Village 3rds in Division 12 West. Their match last weekend was conceded by opponents Streetly Thirds.
