A REDDITCH youngster sprinted her way to gold at the Midlands Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
Nikita Gotthardt-Mills ran 7.91 seconds to win her preliminary round of the Under-17s 60 metres sprint at the High Performance Centre at the Alexander Stadium, and then improved to 7.87 in taking first place in her semi-final.
The 16-year-old, from St Augustine’s Catholic School, was even quicker in the final, crossing the line in a blistering 7.85 in the final to take gold.
The Bromsgrove and Redditch AC runner said she was delighted to have retained her crown is looking forward to running at the national championships in Sheffield later this month.
“I’ve made a promise to myself to train even harder because I will be in a three-year age group next year and it will be much more difficult,” she said.
“I’m hoping to join the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme in September.”
