DESPITE losing this exciting contest on Saturday, Kings returned with their heads held high having recovered from a 14-point half time deficit to secure a four-try bonus point.
High-flying Pershore took the lead after five minutes with a try from Luke Hardiman converted by Rob Haines, but Kings replied nine minutes later when Ed Fogg crossed the line and converted his own try.
The teams were well matched but midway through the first half Kings lost their concentration for a five-minute spell during which the home side scored three quickfire tries through Alex Pullen, Damien May and Ash White, two of which were converted by Haines.
Sam Back managed to cross for an unconverted try after 28 minutes to narrow the deficit to 26-12 and, despite strong home pressure, the half finished without further score.
Things looked ominous for Kings when Pershore began the second half as they had started the match with another early converted try from their man of the match Greg Hitchcock, but their Hopwood visitors dug deep and fought their way back into the game.
Five minutes later Alex Styliano crossed after breaking several tackles with his strong drive to the line, which ‘Foggy’ converted.
Spurred on, Kings narrowed the points gap further on the hour mark when centre Pete Crompton made a strong run through Pershore’s defence to score close to the posts.
Although Kings finished strongly they were unable to add to their score and secure a losing bonus point.
Kings turn their attentions to derby day action this weekend when Redditch visit Hopwood Park on Saturday (3pm).
