Six-figure investment pays off for Redditch golfers

A £200,000 INVESTMENT in machinery has paid off for Redditch Golf Club as only two days were lost to the weather this winter – putting it among the top clubs in the UK for course availability.

Due to the investment and hard work of new head greenkeeper Karl Williams and his team, the course was playable on all 18 tees and greens when open on all but two days.

The Lower Grinsty Lane club is now recognised as having one of the best courses in the Midlands for its consistent condition and quality playing surfaces.

The club has committed the vast majority of its course maintenance budget to Toro machinery in a bid to maintain a continuous improvement programme.

Course chairman John Garey said: “We are rightly proud of the playability of the course at Redditch Golf Club and the hard work that Karl and his team have put in during the autumn and winter months has clearly paid off.

“The growing reputation of the course is undoubtedly one of the reasons we were able to win one of the pre-qualifying rounds for the Northern Ireland Open.”

The club is to host the European Challenge Tour qualifying event on Monday, May 18 when a large gallery of members and guests will be able to watch some of the UK’s most promising professional golfers battling for just two invitations to the event in August in Northern Ireland.
