Sherwood success for young guns

THE TRIP to Sherwood Pines in Mansfield proved a fruitful one for Redditch Road & Path Cycling Club youngsters who claimed medals in the first round of the Midlands Mountain Bike League.

In the U13s category Sulli Berry enjoyed a superb race on a fast and mainly flat course not normally to his liking but he managed to finish in second place, almost two minutes ahead of his nearest rival.

Birthday boy Tom Cartwright coped well as he stepped up a level to ride in his first ever Midlands race.

After being swamped by the shear number of riders in the race, he finished strongly as he overtook a number of riders on the last lap to finish 13th.

Both boys then immediately took to the course again for the team event alongside David Cartwight and Paul Berry.

The event sees cyclists produce one lap as fast as they can, with each rider to count. Redditch were up against sponsored riders but performed well and were rewarded for some good tactics with second place on the podium, beaten only by a team containing two Midland champions.
