RUGBY UNION - Redditch RFC whitewash Five Ways Old Edwardians in comfortable victory

REDDITCH RFC whitewashed Five Ways Old Edwardians 34-0 to secure their first win of the new year, dotting down six tries in total.

Leo Fanthome, Stuart Brookes, Will Spires, Tom McLarney, Connor Morris and Aaron Atkinson all crossed for Redditch as they cruised to a comfortable win.

The result means Redditch sit fourth in the Midlands 5 West (South) table, just two points behind second place Greyhound.

And with heavy frost forcing the game to be played on the slope, Redditch broke the deadlock when Fanthome scored on the right wing with Spires converting.

Redditch added a second try when Brookes took a quick tap penalty and forced his way over the line.

And Spires then converted his own score when he darted through after James Mills caught the visiting defence flat-footed.

The home side ended the first half with their fourth try when McLarney finished off a flowing move on the left wing.

However, the second period proved a much closer affair before Morris touched down in the right corner after some sustained pressure in the visitors half.

And Atkinson completed the scoring when he scored in the left corner after overlapping from fullback.

Redditch are without a game next week and return to action away at Greyhound on Saturday, January 29 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Hereford City Sports Club.
