ALCESTER RFC suffered a 15-5 defeat to Old Leamingtonians on the club’s Chairman’s Day in what was their first game in three weeks.
Captain Max Biltcliffe scored Alcester’s only try of the afternoon before full back Dwayne Cruickshank was sent off for the home side in the second half.
The result leaves Alcester in sixth place in the Midlands 3 West (South) table, having taken 45 points from 17 matches.
Alcester made a slow start and were caught off guard in the first few minutes of the game when Old Leamingtonians crossed for the opening try.
And the visitors struck again soon after with a powerful driving maul although the windy conditions made both conversion attempts difficult to convert.
Old Leams were reduced to 14-men for a high tackle later in the half and Alcester made the most of their numerical advantage when top try-scorer Biltcliffe dotted down to add another score to his tally.
However, Old Leams scored their third try shortly before half time after creating an overlap on the wing to lead by 10 points heading into the break.
The home side missed a penalty early in the second period before Cruickshank was shown a red card after the referee deemed the full back’s tackle to have made contact with the head with force.
Alcester are next in action away at Rugby St Andrews on Saturday, March 12 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Hillmorton Grounds.
And Alcester’s second XV were also in action against Old Leamingtonians as they succumbed to a 16-10 defeat.
The scoreline was a massive improvement on the reverse fixture in which Old Leams ran out 64-0 winners.
Six Colts players contributed to the second team with 17-year-old Oli Hayes scoring his side’s first try.
Glynn Smith doubled his side’s score but it wasn’t enough to edge out their opponents who sealed their club’s second victory of the weekend.
