RUGBY UNION - Alcester RFC awarded bonus point win before beating Stratford's second XV

ALCESTER RFC were awarded a default bonus point home win after scheduled league opponents Stoke Old Boys failed to raise a team before then beating Stratford’s second XV 65-5.

The win means Alcester are now third in the Midlands 3 West (South) table having won seven of their 10 matches this season.

Despite their league game being called off, the club were still able to play a match on their annual President’s Day after Stratford’s second XV stepped in at short notice.

And the home side made the perfect start when captain Max Biltcliffe scored the game’s first try following a powerful break from Ant Cauvin.

Stratford hit back with what would prove to be their only score of the afternoon before Jack Green restored Alcester’s advantage after running from deep inside his own half.

Cauvin then added Alcester’s third try when he appeared with the ball under a pile of bodies before Mark Burrell grounded his own chip kick to send the hosts into the break with a 26-5 lead.

The scoring continued in the same vein in the second-half when prop Jack Horton crossed in the opening minutes of the second period.

Alcester matched their opponents when Stratford lost players due to injury as the home side ran in a flurry of tries.

Jacob Turner threw a superb dummy pass to cross for Alcester’s sixth try before Lewis Walker ran three quarters of the pitch to get his name on the scoresheet.

And Turner added his second try to bring up half a century of points for Alcester before Ed Gough, Will Silk and Alex Chiles all crossed to complete an 11-try rout.

Alcester are next in action away at Tenbury on Saturday, December 18 for their final game of the year with kick-off at 2.15pm at Palmers Meadow.
