RUGBY UNION - Alcester end home campaign with bonus point win

ALCESTER RFC ended their home campaign on a high after they secured a 29-5 bonus point victory against Tenbury.

Lewis Walker crossed twice for Alcester late on after Jamie Harland, Josh O’Connor and Max Biltcliffe had all touched down for tries.

The result means Alcester sit fifth in the Midlands 3 West (South) table with one fixture left to play this season.

Alcester made a poor start when Dwayne Cruickshank was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on inside the opening 10 minutes.

However, after Tenbury missed with a penalty attempt, Harland raced away from inside his own half as he fended off several defenders before grounding over the line.

The visitors drew level when Tenbury created an overlap on the outside to score with the game level at five-apiece at the break.

Alcester were quick out of the blocks in the second half when O’Connor scored in the corner from Jack Green’s pass after Phil Barks ripped the ball to retrieve possession.

And O’Connor then landed a 50:22 kick as Biltcliffe finished from the resulting driving maul with Ed Gough adding the extras.

Walker scored Alcester’s bonus point try before quickly adding his second of the afternoon down the left wing to seal the victory.

Tempers flared late on with Harland sin binned for bad language before a scuffle broke out which led to the referee blowing for time.

Alcester finish their campaign away at Woodrush on Saturday, April 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Icknield Street.
