ALCESTER RFC ran in 10 tries in a dominant 56-14 friendly victory against Five Ways Old Edwardians.

Five Ways were up for a last-minute trip to Kings Coughton after Stoke Old Boys failed to raise a side for the Midlands 3 West (South) fixture which meant Alcester were awarded the five league points.

Despite arriving with a depleted team with several Alcester players stepping to play up for their opposition, Five Ways took an early lead in the game with a converted try.

Five minutes later, Will Silk scored his first of the afternoon after snaking through several tackles to score in the corner, but Five Ways retained their lead as the conversion was missed.

The Alvechurch side doubled their lead through Oscar Holland who was lending a hand to the team whose 1st XV play two leagues below Alcester.

Within 10 minutes, Mark Burrell had added two tries to give Alcester the lead for the first time in the game, before Ross Gard added another to give the home side a 22-14 advantage at the break.

The second half saw the game turn to uncontested scrums due to injuries and a lack of subs available.

Silk was quick to score at the start of the second half before Holland, who was now back wearing the correct coloured shirt, put in all the hard work before offloading to Ed Gough to score Alcester’s sixth try of the afternoon.

The home side ran away with things after here adding four more tries courtesy of Will Mitchell, Neil Goodrich, Alex Chiles and Silk who rounded off his hat-trick.

Alcester welcome Tenbury to Kings Coughton this Saturday, April 9 with kick-off at 3pm for their last home fixture of the season.
