Refreshed Dickens is fighting fit

WINYATES East’s Carl Dickens has revealed he is in the “best physical condition possible” as he prepares to try and claim a fourth successive victory since turning professional.

‘The Wallop’ is part of an exciting bill at Villa Park’s Holte Suite on Saturday, July 12 when he will face 37-year-old Essex fighter Danny Brown on a night which also sees his sparring partner Craig Cunningham in action.

Thirty-year-old Dickens, who is sponsored by Birmingham-based Passion VIP, will be facing a southpaw for a third successive fight in the four-round middleweight encounter and is confident he has the tools to maintain his perfect record in the professional ranks.

The fans’ favourite has recently returned from a holiday in Thailand, the final part of which saw him complete a week’s training camp in which Dickens was mainly boxing, but also took the chance to sample some Thai boxing.

Since his return, Dickens has embarked on a six-week training camp at his Studio ABC base in Birmingham under the guidance of coach Gary Blower and in the company of top Midlands boxers as sparring partners.

“The break and then the training which has followed has done my the power of good,” said Dickens.

“I was mainly boxing during my training in Thailand, but I did a bit of the Thai stuff, mainly to keep the locals happy!

“It was really beneficial for me because I was training in 33C heat and that’s not easy to cope with, but of course it’s good to have that kind of preparation behind you when you get into the ring.

“Since I’ve been back home I’ve stepped it up further and this week I had six hard rounds of sparring with Craig Cunningham, Max Maxwell and Andrew Robinson, so my preparations cannot have been any better.”

Blower revealed he was delighted with the shape Dickens is in and has been busily preparing his man for another battle against a southpaw.

Dickens added: “It’s unusual to be fighting a southpaw for a third time in a row but I am quite happy about it. I’ve got my plans on how to go about it, am feeling great and I’m confident I’ll get the victory if I execute my plans properly.”

As well as continuing with his sprint sessions, Dickens will now complete more sparring with Cunningham on Sunday and then will be ready to go in front of a crowd which will again be packed with support from Redditch.

“I’ve sold around 100 tickets again and all the table tickets have gone,” added The Wallop.

“The support means so much to me. The fans inspire me and I can’t wait to get out there and perform for them again.”

A limited number of tickets remain and are available by calling Carl on 07411 936522.
