Reds sign striker Ellis to boost attacking options

REDDITCH United have drafted in striker Curvin Ellis from National North leaders Solihull Moors to bolster their ranks as the intriguing Southern League Premier Division promotion race continues to hot up.

Ellis has been on loan at Midland League Premier Division outfit Highgate United in recent months and is in contention to make his debut when United host bottom side Bideford at the Valley Stadium on Saturday.

Liam McDonald’s Reds returned to the top of the table thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to Frome Town on Monday, but they were indebted to an 89th-minute penalty from Luke Shearer to salvage a share of the spoils against the in-form Somerset side, who have all but secured their safety having taken 16 points from their past six matches.

The result left Redditch – who won 1-0 at home to Histon on Saturday thanks to a late George Carline header – a point above Poole Town having played a game more, with third placed Leamington in action at Chesham United this evening (Tuesday).

It was a good weekend for Redditch Borough as they booked their place in the final of the Midland League Challenge Vase thanks to an impressive 3-0 victory at fellow Division Three high-flyers Alcester Town.

Jak Albutt bagged a brace and Brandon Mutibvu was also on the scoresheet for the Reds, who will tonight (Tuesday) bid to close the gap on leaders Leamington Hibernian to one point when they take on Badsey Rangers at the Valley.
