Redditch Summer Open is a smash hit

THE KNIGHTS Pharmacy Redditch Summer Open at Redditch HDA Tennis Club attracted more than 50 entries from across the Midlands and further afield.

The four-day event, sponsored by the Redditch pharmacy, began with the 12&U boys’ event.

Gregor Morris from Scotland took the title without dropping a set as he beat Josh Beddis from South Wales in the final.

The 16&U boys’ event saw Luke Pycock from Worcester beat Harry Lear from Gloucestershire in the final.

The winners from both the 12&U and 16&U events also made it to the final of the 14&U event and 14-year-old Pycock was too strong for the 11-year-old Scot as he secured another title.

The 8&U event played on a mini court with low compression red balls attracted entries aged between five and eight and local boy George Hadley finished runner-up as he lost out to Yorkshire player Zephram Cochrane in the final.

The event was a great success and is part of an extensive programme at the Batchley-based club which offers opportunities for all ages and abilities to get involved in tennis.

The club has just completed the construction of two new purple and green tennis courts which extends the club to a six-court venue.

If you are interested in getting involved in tennis or would like more information about what is on offer at the club, contact Tony Ravenscroft by email at [email protected] or call 07969 649092.
