CRICKET: Redditch Entaco 2nds slipped to their first defeat of the season as league leaders Worcester Nomads dominated to secure a 97-run victory last Saturday.
Batting first, openers Derek Austin (115 not out) and Roger Dimon (47) gave the visitors an excellent platform and finished on 282/5 off their 50 overs. Ashley Freeman (4-73) was the pick of the Redditch bowling.
In reply, the Kingfishers lost early wickets and only a brave 98 from Asif Mukhtar and 39 from wicketkeeper Aaron Tozer offered any resistance as they were all out for 185.
Patrick O’Driscoll did the damage taking 7-27.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Geoff Eley takes his side to Bewdley.
The Thirds travelled to West Malvern and came away with a losing draw.
The home side scored 311-9 off 50 overs, Phil Choudry top scoring with 95.
In reply, Redditch dug deep thanks to 54 from Dave Simons and 43 from all rounder Adam Freeman, who also took 3-73 with the ball, as they finished on 166-/7 off 50 overs.
Entaco 4ths took the points against West Malvern in a low scoring affair by seven runs. Bowled out for 99 the Kingfishers bounced back with Nev Mason 5/28 and Rob Pegg 4/10 rolling Malvern for just 92.Mason had a good day with the bat too scoring 47.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the 3rds and 4ths entertain Stourbridge.
