Redditch School Games tennis tournament is an ace occasion

Redditch Editorial 22nd May, 2017   0

REDDITCH HDA Tennis Club hosted a successful Redditch School Games tennis tournament last Friday.

Ninety-six pupils took part, making up 32 teams over three events – years three and four, years five and six and years seven and eight.

Teams from years three and four competed in the morning when eight teams of four players – two boys and two girls – took part in timed matches.

Schools competing in the year three and four event were Batchley, Astwood Bank, St Luke’s and Crabbs Cross.

Both the A and B teams from Astwood Bank progressed to the final in which the Astwood Bank A team maintained their unbeaten run against their B team after some close matches and booked their spot in the county final.

Schools competing in the year five and six event were Ridgeway, Walkwood, Church Hill, Webheath and Ipsley. Runners-up Church Hill A fought hard in the final but the strength and depth of Walkwood’s A team prevailed to secure their place in the county final.

Woodfield, Woodrush and Ipsley competed in the year seven and eight doubles event. Sixteen pairs took part and Woodrush A were unbeaten to claim top spot, with Woodrush B finishing runners-up.

Good luck to Astwood Bank A and Walkwood A who will be playing in the county final on July 4 at Bromsgrove School.

The HDA club is open to all ages and abilities. For more details contact Tony Ravenscroft on 07969 649092.
