Redditch look to end season in style

REDDITCH ENTACO complete their Birmingham League Division Three programme with a visit to Old Hill on Saturday.

The eighth-placed Kingfishers go into the contest on the back of three successive defeats and will be keen to end on a winning note as they look to erase the disappointment of last Saturday’s 85-run loss at home to lowly Old Elizabethans.

The Worcester side got off to a good start thanks to a fine 65 from wicketkeeper Jamie Boyle but Redditch bounced back as Haris Ali and Rizwan Mohammed took two wickets apiece.

However, an excellent 53 from Lee Dixon gave the visitors a decent total to defend as they made 213-7 off 40 overs in a rain-affected match.

The Kingfishers started well as Tom Phelan hit a quickfire 24 but once again Redditch lost wickets early on and were always chasing the game.

A break for rain did not help matters and Redditch collapsed from 71-2 to 125 all out, with spin bowler Rowan Upton taking 4-24.

The 2nds suffered a similar fate at Old Elizabethans as the home side took the points with a 44-run victory.

Opener Chris Pearman (100no) and 54 from James Allen did the damage as Old Elizabethans posted 206-5 off 45 overs. Jack Mayo took 2-16.

In reply Redditch never really got going and struggled despite 24 from Abdul Jabbar in a total of 162. Jake Greenbank and Sam Ford took three wickets apiece for the home side.

Leaders Berkswell are the visitors to Bromsgrove Road on Saturday when they will look to clinch the title.
