REDDITCH Entaco’s first and second teams enjoyed victories over local rivals Studley in their opening pre-season friendlies.

Captains Russell Southwick and Asif Mukhtar both made significant contributions as the Kingfishers took the spoils in entertaining games.

The 1st XI sneaked home by six runs. Having been put into bat, Redditch scored 207-8 off 45 overs as Southwick led the way with 64, all-rounder Greg Chinn chipped in with 30, Rizwan Choudry made 24 and Tom Field 22.

Andy Rhodes (3-38) and Neelesh Chaturverdi (3-44) were the pick of the home side’s bowling.

In reply Studley started in positive fashion, led by skipper Steve Rose (25). Jack Williams made 42, but the Kingfishers chipped away and Ghulam Moyhuddin led the way with 3-33.

Chinn took two quick wickets and, despite a late flourish from Stuart Harris (32), the home side finished on 201-9 off their 45 overs.

New Zealand overseas player Brandon Weal enjoyed a good afternoon behind the stumps for Redditch as he took three catches.

The Kingfishers complete their pre-season campaign at home to Earlswood on Saturday.

There were runs galore at Bromsgrove Road as the 2nds beat Studley by 66 runs, with Mukhtar scoring a magnificent 121 as Redditch scored 256-4 off 45 overs.

Nick Fowkes (30), Raheem Basharat (30) and Geoff Eley (29) all contributed, whilst Chris Regan (2-38) was the pick of the Studley bowling.

In reply, a fine 69 not out from skipper Chris Moss and 26 from Jordan Hobbis saw Studley finish on 190-6 off their 45 overs. Teenager Haleem Basharat took 2-29.

Redditch 2nds visit Feckenham on Saturday.
