ONCE again Redditch Swimming Club put out two teams in round two of this year’s Worcester Winter League competition as both the A and B teams were drawn together in a home gala at the Abbey Stadium in Redditch and the A team were successful in qualifying for the Winter League final.

Facing a formidable Stourbridge A team, RSC A had a great morale-boosting victory as they edged the gala by just two points, whilst RSC B finished in fourth place.

The final results were Redditch A 199 points, Stourbridge A 197, Pershore 158, Redditch B 124 and Orion 120 points.

Redditch A achieved an impressive 14 individual wins and eight second places, backed up by three wins and three second places in relays.

The Redditch B team also put in a great performance, gaining two seconds and 11 third places, as well as coming third in three relays.

Redditch winners on the night were Millie Checkley (11/under, 50m breaststroke), Lizzie Kingham (13/u, 100m breaststroke), Hollie Richmond (13/u, 100m backstroke), Rosie Potter (13/u, 100m freestyle), Ben Lewis (15/u, 100m fly and 100m breaststroke), Meg Moss (15/u, 100m breaststroke), Issy Griffiths (15/u, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke), Paul Wilkes (open, 100m fly and 100m breaststroke), Scott Allin (open, 100m backstroke), Braiden Hartles (open, 100m freestyle) and Laura Cranshaw (open, 100m breaststroke).

In the relays, RSC wins came in the 13/under medley and the open age group medley and freestyle events.

Redditch SC head coach Chris Britt was pleased with both teams’ performances and commented: “This win puts our A team into second place in the league and safely into the A final yet again.

“If we can ensure that we have all of our strongest swimmers available to us again, we should ensure another very high final league position.

“The Worcester Winter League gives us the opportunity to enter two teams, testing the strength of our squad and exposing some of our slightly less experienced swimmers to some top level competition.

“The club spirit is fantastic and there is so much competition for places, which can only push up the overall standard at the club.”
