Ravens set for Raiders opener

NORTH EAST WORCESTERSHIRE RAVENS start their Midlands Rugby League South season with a home game against Telford Raiders on Saturday (2.30pm).

Spectators are welcome to the match at Kings Norton RFC, Hopwood Park.

Meanwhile, Ravens juniors started training on Sunday in the glorious sunshine at Kings Norton RFC.

Ravens are a thriving club, with juniors from three to 16 years old, an open age team and masters with players still playing in their 70s.

Ravens are still looking to expand further by attracting more girls and women to the club, initially through their O2 Touch sessions on Monday evenings.

“We already have a few females in the Little Leaguers, juniors and touch rugby sessions but we are keen to increase this and, if there is enough interest, progress to a contact women’s rugby league team,” said director of rugby Jason Spafford.

“We are a family community club which has grown hugely over the last few seasons. We already have grandfathers and grandchildren playing within our club from the same family.

“However, we want to include everybody so it is obvious we need to involve more women and girls on the playing side.”

Ravens are still recruiting open age and junior players as well as women and girls. Juniors aged between three and 15 train on Sundays between 10.30am and noon at Kings Norton RFC, whilst under 16s and open age train on Wednesdays between 7.30-9pm at the same venue.

O2 Touch sessions (mixed age, gender and ability) are held on Mondays between 7.30-9pm at the Hopwood club. For more details, visit www.newravensrl.co.uk.
