Quieter time for Alcester bowlers

Redditch Editorial 12th Jul, 2017   0

WITH no Yardley Wood Superleague or Heart of England over 60s matches, Alcester Bowling Club had a week of comparative inactivity.

For the second week in succession, the A team in Division Five of the S&W Birmingham Over 60s League had a team weakened by holidays with which to face an away match, with the opposition Black Horse B.

Again Alcester were able to overcome these difficulties to record an excellent 33-shot win, picking up ten points to the hosts’ two.

Alcester owed much to John Slater who had a superb 21-2 win, but he was well supported by Margaret D’Elia (21-12), Jean Sherrington (21-15) and Ken Craddock (21-16).

The B team hosted West Midlands Transport B in Division Six and winning cards from Tricia Barry and Jean Craddock (both 21-11), Carole Slater (21-14) and David Hodgson (21-19) saw them to a 23-shot success.

This 8-2 victory puts them fifth in the league with games in hand on all of the clubs above them.

The woeful season for both of the club’s teams in the Heart of England League continued as each lost again.

The A team visited Baldwin A and could only find one winner – Renny Bannister (21-18). They picked up just one point against the hosts’ 17 as they slumped to a 61-shot defeat.

In Division Four, the B team entertained Moseley Cricket Club B and, although they did have three winners in Carole Slater (21-11), David Sutor (521-16) and Margaret D’Elia (21-19), this was insufficient to prevent the visitors winning by 11 shots and gaining a 15-3 success.
