Preparations well under way as Alcester aim to prosper at higher level

Redditch Editorial 4th Jul, 2017   0

AS ALCESTER prepare to compete at their highest ever level next season in Midlands Three West (South), a cohort of volunteers have stepped forward to ensure another successful year for the club.

Pre-season training has begun, taking place from 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday under returning head coach Keith Beech and a new strengthened coaching team.

As always, the club are welcoming any new players, regardless of ability, who are willing to be a part of the accommodating teams under new captaincy of Jack Horton and Adrian Derrick for the first and second teams respectively.

After winning the Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield last season, the second team have decided to re-enter the Warwickshire Merit League so they too can compete at a competitive level and ensure regular fixtures.

Off the pitch, another group of volunteers are at hand to co-ordinate the organisation and social aspects of the club.

Following the AGM, Andy Flynn now takes on the position of club chairman, whilst Andy Miller agreed to stay on as president. This is not to forget the committee, who work relentlessly behind the scenes too.

Pre-season fixtures are being finalised ahead of the start of league rugby, which sees Alcester host Wythall outfit Woodrush on September 9.

Redditch open their Midlands Four West (South) campaign at Claverdon on the same date.
