REDDITCH Road & Path Cycling Club’s young guns had plenty to celebrate at the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League presentation evening.

Being one of the toughest leagues in the country makes achieving anything in this competition special, so to bring back a haul of silverware was a fantastic team effort.

The club as a whole performed brilliantly over the season to finish runners-up in the U12 league and fourth in the 12+ and senior league.

Redditch were also runners-up in the most number of rides out of all of the region’s clubs. These results are testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone at the club and shows it to be one of the most successful in the region.

The winners are just the icing on a very large cycling cake, topping a great many superb performances both regionally and nationally throughout all the age groups.

Redditch award-winners were: Ben Gilmore second U6 boy; Arly Berry third U8 boy; Ryan Oldfield 3rd U12 boy; Isla Mason 1st U16 girl; Sam Wainwright 3rd U16 boy (completing the league on just one bike).

Meanwhile, Annie Lindsay won the Junior Girls’ league and One-bike League and Sulli Berry, after a superb season in which he finished third at the National Series event in Bradford, ninth in the National Championships and ended the campaign ranked seventh in Great Britain, was awarded the Royal Sutton Cup for outstanding performances throughout the season.

Youth riders aged between four and 16 train at the Abbey Stadium on Wednesdays. Those interested in joining can email [email protected] for more information.

Adult rides go out every weekend, with away trips organised. The next club event is Sunday’s Reliability Trial – 60 or 40-mile rides starting from Mettis Sports & Social Club in Batchley at 9am. The cost is £5 per rider including hot drink and cake.
