NICK PADDOCK took top spot in Saturday’s annual River Arrow Championship which, fished from Alcester to Broom, featured 45 anglers.

Paddock won with 12lb 5oz to finish above joint second Phil O’Donnell and Barry Feldhahn (11lb 10oz). John Walkden was fourth with 10lb 5oz.

Section winners were Dave Thomson (8lb 14oz), Barry Blewett (6lb 2oz), Jason Parnell (5lb 12oz), Chris Cole (5lb 3oz), Jack Nosworthy (4lb 8oz), Nigel Davis (3lb 13oz) and Paul Norledge (2lb 11oz).

THERE was an impressive turnout for the Jim Burton Prostate Screening Fund-raiser on Saturday when 24 anglers competed.

This brilliant concept on Arrow Valley Lake involves matches running to raise cash to finance free PSA testing.

Young James Lawler (Arrow Valley) drew the same peg (21) which he won from on the last fund-raiser and continued his brilliant form on the lake with an excellent catch of 55lb 8oz to seal another victory.

His catch comprised of 40lb of bream plus two bonus carp taken mostly on method feeder with a small boilie for hookbait.

Second place went to another angler – Mick Price (Mallards AC) – with good recent form on the lake. He had a nice bag of 24 bream for 48lb 11oz from peg 60, taken on corn presented on an open-ended feeder rig.

Jack Eades (Ringer Baits) took third with 25lb 15oz of bream ahead of James Wilson (Worcester) with a good small fish catch of 19lb 4oz taken on the pole from peg 55.

Section awards went to John Halfpenny (17lb 3oz), Wayne Sharpe (5lb 9oz), Paul Mortimer (8lb 15oz), Phil Milnthorpe (4lb 3oz) and John Howse (5lb 4oz).

Another fund-raiser is scheduled for September 29 in aid of this great cause – the brainchild of well known local angling personality Jim Burton. Call 07879 624248 for details.

THE NEEDLES AC match on the River Alne at Great Alne on Sunday was won by Bob Allen with 5lb 11oz.

He was followed by Bob Brazil (2lb 15oz), Pete Elms (2lb 14oz), Glyn Blewett (2lb 12oz), Pete Lewis (2lb 10oz) and Bob Dean (2lb 1oz).
