ALCESTER Bowling Club’s poor start to the crown green season continued and indeed got worse as every match over the past week resulted in defeat.
In Division Five of the S&W Birmingham Over 60s League the A team travelled to Colebrook B where only Jean Bannister (21-12) and Ken Harvey (21-16) achieved winning cards.
Alcester suffered a 24-shot defeat as the hosts won eight points and Alcester just two.
The A team suffered their second defeat of the week in Division Two of the Yardley Superleague. Their visit to Bournville Sports again brought just a couple of winning cards, this time from Val McDermott and Ken Craddock (both 21-11), resulting in a 46-shot defeat. Bournville picked up 16 points to Alcester’s two.
The B team in Division Four had their match postponed due to a waterlogged green.
Ground advantage in Division One of the Heart of England League brought no relief to the A team who again went down by 16 points to two as they crashed to a 47-shot defeat against Austin British Legion A.
Once more there were just two winning cards – Ken Harvey (strong at 21-8) and John Alderson (21-19).
The final match of the week brought the biggest loss as the B team crashed to a 54-shot defeat at White Hart B.
Yet again there were only two winners – Rick Horton (21-15) and David Hodgson (21-16) – as Hart secured a 16-2 victory.
Thus, in the Heart of England League, both Alcester sides have lost all four of their games so far and both are currently bottom of their respective divisions.
