Millers Reserves fight back

Redditch Editorial 16th Mar, 2017   0

WITH Feckenham’s first team out of action on Saturday, the Millers’ Reserves took centre stage as they fought out a 2-2 draw at fellow in-form side Northfield Athletic in Stratford Alliance Division One.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 down at Shenley Lane after 17 minutes, but they launched a fine comeback and were unfortunate not to take all three points at the death.

The result lifted Feckenham Reserves into sixth place with three and five games in hand over the two sides directly above them, Ilmington United and Quinton respectively.

It took just 40 seconds for the deadlock to be broken, with Feckenham evidently still in the changing rooms, as a swift passing move saw the ball worked out to the Northfield right-midfielder who drilled a delivery across the face of goal and the forward beat Andy Wright at the far post to tap home beyond keeper Tristan Roberts.

The hosts doubled their lead on 17 minutes when a corner was only cleared to the edge of the box and the Northfield forward’s strike cannoned off of a team-mate, who looked in an offside position, and wrong-footed Roberts, leaving the young custodian with little chance.

Feckenham halved their arrears just before the break when a through ball from man of the match Logan Madden released Danny Williams, who was brought down in the box, and the latter brushed himself off before firing the resulting penalty low past the keeper.

Feckenham were the dominant side after the break and deservedly levelled when great tenacity from Jay Wright forced two Athletic defenders into errors, allowing Wright to release fellow substitute Adam Garmson who coolly fired a low strike into the back of the net.

The visitors almost claimed maximum points late on but Garmson’s free kick was superbly saved before the same player fired against the post from a difficult angle when team-mates were better placed to convert.

Feckenham’s first team resume Midland League Division Two action at home to Hampton on Saturday.
