BRANDON MILLER smashed an unbeaten 70 as Studley chalked up their first win of the season in Warwickshire League Division One.

After Studley’s bowlers had dismissed visitors Coleshill for 134, the hosts eased to a five-wickets win.

Miller top scored with 70 not out and his 79-run third wicket stand with Jack Williams steadied any early anxiety after they had stuttered to 8-2.

Williams was run out for 36 and, although Jawaad Nazir and Stuart Harris fell in quick succession, Miller saw the team home to a 20-point victory.

Studley’s bowlers had been miserly after skipper Steve Rose won the toss and put Coleshill into bat.

Harris recorded five maidens in his 12 overs, snapping up 2-12, while Rose had 3-17 off seven and Josh Gandy claimed 2-40.

Andy Rhodes, Greg Moore and Owain Erskine also took a wicket apiece.

Coleshill were in all sorts of trouble after losing three wickets with the score on 12 but a 66-run partnership between Mohammed Usman (29) and Sheraz Khan (38) steadied the ship.

However, the other batsmen struggled to get on top of Studley’s precise bowling and they subsided to 134 all out in the 49th over.

Studley 2nd XI fell to a 55-run defeat in their Division Eight West fixture at Walmley 4ths.

Richard Lewis and Bash Bashir both took three wickets as the hosts reached 151-9, but Studley were dismissed for 96.

Studley 1sts head to Weoley Hill on Saturday, while the 2nds host Small Heath BC.
