Maskell triumphs in River Alne Championship

BARRY MASKELL won Saturday’s River Alne Championship – sponsored by B D Gaskets – with a catch of 7lb 12oz.

Runner-up in the event, which attracted 61 anglers, was Bob Dean with 6lb 5oz, Ali Morgan was third with 5lb 15oz, Harry Sidebottom was fourth with 5lb 13oz and section winners were M Wormwood (5lb 6oz), S Howl (4lb 6oz), J Mutchell (4lb 4oz), A Carter (3lb), C Cole (1lb 15oz) and I Young (1lb 9oz).

FORTY anglers competed in Sunday’s charity match for the British Heart Foundation in memory of J A Wills on the Arrow and Avon rivers at Bidford, Barton and Broome.

An impressive £1,100 was raised and the winner was Paul Caswell with 10lb 8oz. Mick Keen was second with 8lb 12oz, S Pallott third with 6lb 4oz and C Coleman fourth with 5lb 4oz.




Section winners were S Hemming (4lb 14oz), N Paddock (4lb 12oz), D Thompson (4lb 6oz) and B Houghton (2lb 4oz 8drms).

TONY BRADSHAW bagged good perch on the pole using maggots for a catch of 7lb 3oz to win Saturday’s Redditch Town AC Club Open on the River Avon at Binton.


Stan Field feeder-fished the worm to net skimmers for 3lb 4oz which clinched second place and Mick Shilling was third with a roach net.

WIXFORD AC’s Fur & Feather match was held on club waters on the River Arrow near Arrow and G Rowe was victorious with 5lb 6oz of dace on the stick float with maggots.

Experienced Freddy Walker came second with quality perch on the worm for 5lb 3oz, while Alan Bradshaw took third place with 5lb 1oz of dace and chub on the stick float. Tony Bradshaw was fourth with 5lb of dace on the stick.
