REDDITCH-based Shotokan club Furi Sutairu Karate Academy (FSK) won several medals at an Open National Championship in Peterborough.
Sensei Treadwell’s squad of students competed against other clubs from all over the country in various categories including kata, team kata, weapon kata and point sparring.
And Sensei Treadwell led by example, taking first place in the kata category with Josh Thorp and Dean Cooke winning the same event in their age category.
Josh and Dean did not stop there with the former also placing first in the weapons category and second in team kata whilst the latter won the point sparring category.
There was also success for Theo Giles who was second in the kata, team kata and weapons categories whilst Courtney Harrison was runner-up in both kata and point sparring.
Sensei Treadwell said: “This group of individuals performed to the highest level and it was an honour to coach and watch them compete.
“In the last few weeks, their training programmes have all rammed up and it was clear to see on the day with some amazing displays and true grit to dig out the results.
“For some it was their first time in certain categories and a step into the unknown but they all kept to their own game plan’s and every student took a podium finish.
“FSK is one team and one family in the Dojo and this is seen at events like this.
“Our small army including parents that travelled on Mother’s Day to watch us compete will be remembered at this event.”
Next up for team FSK Redditch is a qualifier for the GB squad.
