Macleod upbeat at Alcester

Redditch Editorial 1st Jun, 2018   0

NEW manager Perry Macleod wants the success he has experienced with Bromsgrove Sporting and Alvechurch to rub off on Alcester Town.

Macleod has been appointed boss of the Midland League Division Three side after Danny Janes stepped down.

Janes ended two seasons in charge of the Total Motion Midland League Division Three side with a 3-1 defeat to Division Two outfit Redditch Borough in the Evesham Hospital Cup last Friday night.

Alcester moved quickly to bring in Macleod, whose coaching CV includes spells at Earlswood, Bromsgrove Sporting and Alvechurch.

“I’ve won a trophy every season I’ve been a backroom staff member and the feeling of winning stays with me but for me the league is my main focus,” he said.

“If you say to me now finish 15th but win a cup I’d have no interest in that. I’ll go into each game with a winning mentality.”

Macleod has been coaching for the past three seasons. After being assistant at Earlswood, he joined Bromsgrove Sporting working with Paul Smith’s Midland League promotion-winners and then joining Ian Long’s Alvechurch as they completed a second successive promotion.

“I was sold on the project and the ambition of Alcester Town going forward, I believe we share a winning mentality, which hopefully will translate onto the pitch,” said Macleod.

Pre-season starts on June.

Meanwhile, Janes is considering his future, with talks planned over roles as a player, as well as coaching and assisting.
