Knowle win the only highlight of poor week for Hart

Redditch Editorial 15th Aug, 2018   0

WHITE Hart Bowls Club had a poor week of results in their various leagues, only picking up one victory in eight matches.

A fine home victory over Ye Olde Knowle in Division One of the Heart of England Over 60s League was the only highlight for the Redditch club who took the match 126-73 with all six winning cards.

Norman Batchelor (21-10), Kirk Wright (21-14) and captain Mike Estell (21-9) gave Hart a fine first half before Stephen Turner (21-15), Ian Humphreys (21-14) and Graham Arnott (21-11) put the result beyond doubt.

White Hart’s B team were second best to Rubery SJC in Division Two, losing the away tie 116-75 and having just two winners – Ken Brown 21-18 and Tom Hawkes 21-14.

In Warks/Worcs League Division Four, White Hart needed a good result at Banbury to keep any faint hopes of promotion alive and they made a good start with Ian Humphreys (21-4) and Kirk Wright (21-15) giving them an early lead.

However, they could only produce one more winning card (Graham Arnott 21-15) from the other ten ties and slipped to a heavy 223-146 defeat. Hart will now need to win their final two home matches to avoid any possibility of filling one of the relegation places.

In the Heart of England Thursday League, White Hart A lost a crucial home match with Wythall A 145-122 in Division Two and are now only five points ahead of their rivals in the battle for the runners-up position.

Hart had three winners – Kirk Wright 21-16, Graham Arnott 21-15 and Paul Matthews 21-9 – but now need to put in a good team performance in the away leg to remain in a promotion place.

White Hart B slumped to a heavy 162-94 defeat at British Oak A in Division Four, having just one winning card from Norman Batchelor (21-15), which keeps him top of the league averages.

In Northfield & District League Division One, White Hart A are virtually certain to lose their top flight status after a 158-116 defeat at fellow strugglers The Maggies on a difficult heavy green.

Matt Higgins (21-11) was their only winner in a disappointing morning for the Redditch team.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague, White Hart B were also heavily beaten 161-90 at West Midlands Travel in Division Four as John Meredith (21-14) gave the team their only point from the evening.

It was a similar story for White Hart’s A team in SW Birmingham Over 60s League Division One as they were thrashed 126-45 by AG College A and could not show any winning cards for their efforts.
