Kingfishers end on a high note

REDDITCH Entaco completed an encouraging season with a four-wicket victory over Pershore to take their league wins for the campaign to 12.

The Kingfishers, already confirmed as finishing fourth, ended the Worcestershire League Premier Division campaign 48 points behind champions Astwood Bank but can be pleased with their endeavours.

Redditch, who have been in the top four all season, won the toss and put the visitors into bat and openers Chris Ridings and Oliver Oxley relished the task as they made 113 for the opening stand.

Oxley was dismissed for a fine 44, but Ridings continued to flourish and received good support from Charlie Norton with 38 and Steve Miles with an unbeaten 30.

Ridings was dismissed for a fine 67 as Pershore ended their innings on 247-8 off their 50 overs. Haleem Basharat took 3-44 and Haris Ali 3-60.

In reply Redditch lost early wickets as both Tom Field and Russell Southwick were dismissed but keeper Chris Brown and Rizwan Mohammed took charge in adding a 114 partnership, with Mohammed hitting an excellent 71.

Brown kicked on with Basharat (25no) and was eventually caught in the deep after scoring a very good 100, but it did not prevent Redditch cruising home with five overs remaining.

The 2nds travelled to Old Hill and were narrowly beaten by 16 runs at Haden Hill.

The home side batted first and a man of the match performance from Ravi Nagra was the difference between the sides as he scored 97 in an impressive 251-9 off 50 overs. James Bevan took 4-51 and Mo Zahid chipped in with 3-75.

Redditch took on the bowlers and Luke Davis hit a quickfire 38, Nick Fowkes 48 and Bevan 44, but Nagra chipped away and took wickets and, despite a hard-hitting 21 from Steve Du Cros, Redditch were bowled out for 235 as Nagra took 5-67.

On Saturday Redditch entertain Kempsey at Bromsgrove Road where the visitors will arrive still with an outside chance of securing promotion to Division Two.
