Key weekend in Bank’s season

Liam Moakes 7th Jun, 2018

ASTWOOD BANK are hoping for a bumper turnout when they host Hagley in the National Village Cup Worcestershire group final on Sunday (2pm).

Victory will take Bank into the National rounds for the second successive season and continue the Sambourne Lane club’s fine tradition in this competition. The bar and barbecue will be available all day.

Prior to that, Bank make the trip to new Birmingham League Division Two leaders Penkridge on Saturday, but go into the match bottom of the table after a disappointing eight-wicket defeat at Fordhouses last time out.

The visitors reached 59-1 thanks to 35 from captain Steve Adshead and 25 from opener Ryan Blakemore but then slumped to 86 all out in just 32 overs as Lewis Peat took 5-16 and Kashif Hussain 4-23.

The Wolverhampton side then eased to their target inside 18 overs.

STUDLEY had to settle for a losing draw in dramatic circumstances at Dunlop Stars in Warwickshire League Division One.

James Cole (3-38), Josh Gandy (3-30), Andy Rhodes (2-17) and Ashley Freeman (2-21) all starred as Studley dismissed the table-topping Coventry side for 133 in the 49th over.

The visitors then reached 36 without loss in reply but this soon became 40-4 as any thoughts of a routine victory were soon quashed.

Jack Williams made 29 but his dismissal proved key and Studley then found themselves 117-7.

Greg Moore made an unbeaten 17 but, with just three runs required for victory and three wickets in hand, both Rhodes and Gandy were run out and Studley fell short on 132-9 off 51 overs, leaving them with nine points.

Studley, who sit bottom of the table, host Kenilworth on Saturday.
