Jumbos enjoy brief stay at the top

Redditch Editorial 11th Dec, 2019   0

AFTER a win over Well Developed in the Swan Studley Skittles League, Jumbo Jet Set took top spot for 24 hours until Engineers regained the leadership with their victory over Swan the following night.

Both Jumbo Jets and Well Developed made their highest team score of the season in what was, for two legs, a close game with Jumbo Jets taking both legs but leading by only six pins.

The lead was increased to 15 after leg three and further extended to 21 pins after leg four. Well Developed denied Jumbo Jets a clean sweep of the points though with a good last leg, spearheaded by a Liz Hindson stack of 12 pins for a consolation point of their own.

Steve Wardle for Jumbo Jets made 39 (10-stack), Rich Johnston 36 and Ray Jones and Mick Stanton 35 each. For Well Developed, Mike Gunnell scored 38, Pauline Withers 36 and Margueritte Bayley 32.

Team BG and Lodge Farmers also produced their season’s best team scores. However, this was scant consolation for Team BG who lost each of the five legs as Lodge Farmers amassed the third highest score by any team this season.

Lodge Farmers were ahead by 11 pins after leg one and won each of the next two legs by ten pins. Only in leg four did Team BG threaten to pinch a leg but they were narrowly edged out by a single pin.

Lodge Farmers’ Tim Jones made his team’s best individual score of the season with 45 (14 and 10 stacks) and was well supported by Rachel Morris with 39 and Chris Prichard, Frank Morris and Glyn Morley with 38 each.

Also making his team’s highest individual score of the season was Team BG’s Kevin Dillon with 43 (15-stack) and team-mates Gail Stringer and Lin Dyer made 35 each.

There were no season’s best scores as Engineers took on Swan. Engineers cruised to a routine win although Swan did manage to nick leg four for an extra point.

Swan again played a game with two players short so to take leg four against the leaders was an achievement in itself.

Top-scoring for Swan were Brandon Reynolds and Andy Reynolds with 35 each and Helen Racki and Kevin Masters with 34 apiece. Unbeaten Engineers had Luke Sanders with 41 (11-stack), Ian Greenway 36 and 35 apiece from Andy Clewlow and Brandon Kelso.

Results: Jumbo Jet Set 9 (332) Well Developed 2 (312); Team BG 1 (311) Lodge Farmers 10 (349); Engineers 9 (334 – ten players and 287 – eight players) Swan 2 (261 – eight players).
