Pershore 21 Alcester 63

Midlands Four West (South)

FOR the second successive weekend, Alcester recorded a half century of points and a league double over their opponents as they put Pershore to the sword.

It was the sixth time this season they have recorded a score of 50 points or more in what continues to be an excellent campaign.

With the sun on their backs on a beautiful spring afternoon, this time Alcester delivered a try bonanza as they maintained top spot and took another step closer to promotion.

The visitors ran in ten tries in one of the most open games of the season so far.

Full back Oscar Holland scored his team’s first try of the game before winger Lewis Walker completed a hat-trick and man of the match Phil Birks contributed to a barnstorming performance with a try of his own.

Other Alcester tries came from skipper Jack Green who scored two, including one length of the field score, scrum half Robbie Parker and flanker Ben Hope, while the try of the game was scored by replacement prop Kyran Flynn who sprinted home to score from the 22m line after taking an offload from hat-trick man Walker.

Successful conversions were shared between Josh O’Connor, Mat Ashby and Max Biltcliffe, whilst Biltcliffe slotted over his side’s only penalty kick.

Going forward Alcester were outstanding, although their defence will no doubt be tested more severely in the two remaining league games they have over the next fortnight – matches that will define their season.

The Kings Coughton men need one more bonus point victory to be certain of second place, which should secure a promotion spot, although they are going to be reliant on others to finish the season as champions with second placed Bromyard still hot on their heels, four points behind with a game in hand.

Alcester’s final home league game of the season is against neighbours Redditch on Saturday (3pm).

ALCESTER are inviting all former players and members to their Legends Day on Saturday.

The event is being run by the members of the Three Pints Club, in aid of the Injured Player Fund. Food is being served from 1pm. To register your place or for more information contact Andy Flynn on 07923 436184.

DEPLETED Alcester 2nds lost out to strong and experienced opposition in the shape of their visitors from Sutton Coldfield, whose 1st XV ply their trade two levels above Alcester.

Alcester were once again grateful for the support of players from Claverdon 2nds to come and bolster the numbers and ensure both clubs’ 2nd XVs get games.

One of the loanee Claverdon players scored one of the home side’s three tries, which was added to by scores by Antony Cauvin and Scott McGhee, with veteran Paul Taylor kicking two conversions.
