Inspired Redditch Ladies hit Harborne for six

REDDITCH Ladies continued their blistering start to the Worcestershire League Division One season with a 6-1 rout of hosts Harborne 4ths on Saturday.

The visitors were soon dominant and within a few minutes Vicky Allen had deflected in a rebounded ball to open the scoring.

Lindsay Morris then saw her effort disallowed before Ruth Waite did make it 2-0, but in the usual Redditch style the ladies became comfortable and conceded a goal which cut their lead in half heading into the break.

Eager to demonstrate their skills after half time, Redditch struck four more times as Allen took her tally for the match to four and Waite also netted again.

Using a combination of skilful short corners and fast-paced game play, the girls destroyed their opposition.

This fourth consecutive win leaves Redditch second in the league on goal difference and the Reds will aim to maintain their winning streak when they host Evesham & Badsey 1sts on Saturday.

REDDITCH Ladies 2nds were edged out 4-3 in an exciting Worcestershire League Division Three game at Barford Tigers 2nds.

In the first half Barford scored either side of an Ellie Preece goal for Redditch, but the visitors took a 3-2 lead in the second half thanks to a brace from Nathalie Frisch.

However, two goals on the counter-attack sealed victory for the home side.

Redditch, who host early leaders Worcester 4ths on Saturday, wish to thank Caitlin Hillier for playing in goal at the minute.

THE UNBEATEN start to the season continued for Redditch Badgers as they defeated visitors Bromsgrove 2-0.

The first half was largely uneventful but in the second period Redditch, captained by Ben Tominski, stepped up their game and from an attack down the left a cross into the Bromsgrove circle found Jake Porter free to fire the ball into the goal.

This spurred on both teams and the game became more intense with pressure on both defences, but both goalkeepers impressed.

The hosts’ central midfielder Sean McCaughey found a lot of space in the second half and this allowed Redditch to move the ball around the pitch and one of these attacks led to the second goal scored by Porter with ten minutes remaining.

A superb tackle by defender Josh Baker then ensured Redditch kept a clean sheet and they head to Evesham on Saturday (3pm) in fine fettle.
