Inaugural event is a big hit

REDDITCH Tennis Club hosted the inaugural Hunters Redditch Bank Holiday Open over three days.

The county-level event attracted 163 entries from across England and Wales and 274 matches were played.

George Hadley from Redditch won the nine and under orange event, beating Felix Shennan from Redditch on the way. They played best of three tie-breaks and it was Hadley who did just enough to seal a 7-3, 5-7, 8-6 victory.

The other winners were Sebastian Wood from Warwickshire who won the eight and under singles, Joseph McLaughlin from Cumbria claimed the ten and under singles crown, Xingchen Cao from Oxfordshire won the 12 and under boys’ singles and Dylan Davies from Derbyshire and Ferran Redza from Warwickshire paired up to win the 12 and under boys’ doubles.




Finn Reilly from Avon won the 14 and under boys’ singles and the Gloucestershire pairing of Theo Crompton and Joshua Gordon took the 14 and under boys’ doubles honours.

In the 16 and under events, Luke Hooper from Avon won the boys’ singles and Rebecca Farnfield from Surrey won the girls’ singles. Surrey sisters Christine and Ingrid Fourie won the 16 and under girls’ doubles and Elita Silins from Northamptonshire won the women’s singles.


Redditch TC head coach Tony Ravenscroft said: “Thanks to Hunters Estate Agents in Redditch for sponsoring the event and providing drinks bottles for the players and trophies for the winners and runners-up.

“It was great for the club to attract so many players from all over the country. The club continues to offer opportunities and great facilities for all ages and abilities.”
